Driving NDC implementation through sectoral action: lessons learned so far

17:00 - 18:30, Monday 7 November, Oum Errabia - Green Zone

Our presentation will examine the important role of sectoral action in the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Many countries are finding the development of sectoral action plans to be a pragmatic way to drive effective NDC implementation and to also empower government ministries and other key stakeholders to take climate action, paving the way to fully embed and mainstream climate action in wider development policy and planning.

We will provide insight into the practical steps and the political will needed to enable implementation at the sectoral level, including:

  • The role of sectoral (and city) plans in the implementation of NDCs
  • Challenges and opportunities of sectoral NDC implementation
  • Effective governance and coordination between sectors
  • Financing action at the sector level
  • Sector-level monitoring, reporting and verification

We are delighted to confirm that we will be joined by the Government of Bangladesh, Government of Nigeria, as well as a number of other speakers giving sectoral and city perspectives, including Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and ICLEI.

NDC webinars

Implementing the Paris Climate Agreement

This webinar video will provide information on:

  • What the Paris Agreement means from the perspective of policy makers dealing with national climate policy.
  • A simple but comprehensive conceptual framework setting out the main ‘pillars’ of INDC implementation and how they interact.
  • Examples of actions which countries can take forward under each pillar and how they might be drawn together into an INDC Implementation Roadmap.
  • Case studies of best practice drawn from a wide range of countries.

Long-term mitigation planning

This webinar video provides in-depth information on long-term mitigation planning; from identifying opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, through to sectoral strategies and specific policies and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) to deliver those reductions.

Accelerating adaptation action through NDCs and the NAP process

Accelerating adaptation action through NDCs and the NAP process

This webinar presents next steps for NDC implementation with a particular focus on adaptation. It recaps on how adaptation is included in the Paris Agreement and NDCs, and explore the potential links between NDCs and the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans (NAPs). We explain how the NAP process can be used to facilitate efforts to implement the adaptation components of NDCs, and vice versa, and provide practical advice on the next steps to accelerate action.
